Thanks. I was unaware of that book.

Harding is a good writer, and I'm sure that is a good book. But neither of the above is exactly
what I am looking for. As with Pillsbury, there are a number of books, but none that
can compare with, say Botvinnik's, Keres', or Larsen's collections.

A number of books have come out in the past few decades on players from the late 1800s,
Richard Forster's "Amos Burn", for example. I haven't looked for it for some time, last I
did it was over $100.

Now that Carlson has retired as WC, perhaps he can write some books, starting with
"Michael Basman's 60 most eccentric games".

Pity rec.games.chess.misc is dead. We could have this discussion there.

Somehow, I doubt that that's the sort of topic Magnus Carlsen would make a
priority!

It still has a few active regulars, so I wouldn't say it's quite dead yet.

In fact, even *my* web site pays homage to it, on the page

It would be a challenge to him, to regain his title playing Basmania.

After all, Spassky played the hippopotamus in one of his world championship
matches.

That's just the corpse twitching.

Nine in ten posts are by Eli showing how someone has blundered against him
in lichess. Often the same blunder he's shown ten times before.

You and I constitute most of the rest. I would post more of my lichess games
were they not so very awful. I had a nice mate in five a few days ago, but
I had the same mate on the previous move, and didn't see it, which rather
spoils the esthetic. But since stockfish six missed it twice, at least
we know that it doesn't look five moves ahead.
