Here's something different from what I post here but typical for what I really do, I tried building a realistic/ semi retro spaceship from an off-brand construction set. I suppose it's a bit of a parody of the 1950-'60s style of long, thin ships. The question it raises in my mind, has anyone done a "straight" design that's just every possible thing a ship could need strung end to end?

Speaking of knockoff building sets...

In Canada, it was Mega Blocks winning a lawsuit brought by LEGO that opened
the floodgates.

But the lawsuit was... ironic... due to one Harry Fisher Page and his Kiddicraft
bricks. However, back when LEGO was copying Kiddicraft, it was being sold
only in the Danish market, and the LEGO bricks we know today, with the circular
locking parts in the middle are a LEGO invention. The Kiddicraft bricks were
split on the side so they could stretch a little, to lock that way.

Before the Lego patent expired, though, there was a brick with a different design
sold in the U.S., "Loc-Blocs". Ah, I see it was designed not to be compatible, as
well. In any case, I remember finding a brick, compatible with Lego, but of a softer
plastic, and with thin walls of plastic running diagonally within the brick for locking
purposes. I haven't been able to find out what brand that was.

I'm not sure about "every possible thing" or "strung end to end" -
or straight - but "Spaceball One" in the film _Spaceballs_ is
very long.
<http://www.sciencefictionarchives.com/en/collections/70/spaceball-one-large-size-original-model>
states that in addition to usual functions of a space vessel
"it held a shopping mall, a three-ring circus, and a zoo".

I think _Star Trek Enterprise_ portrays freight ships
with detachable cargo modules, and _Star Trek Voyager_
had that ship where Harry Kim had a bit too much
unauthorized first contact,
