Here's an actual follow-up post, a review of Robot And Frank, one of the very best "robot movies" since at least 2010. It's also an interesting variation on the concept and developing "real life" role of a caregiver AI. One more thing it brings up is whether we've gotten to the point where 1980s-'90s sci fi is equivalent to steampunk and "Raygun Gothic". All feedback is welcome!

Yes, another fan of Robot and also Frank! I too saw it on Netflix (well, from Netflix, in the "never underestimate the bandwidth of a mailbag full of DVDs" days).

I view the corruption of the robot as a Laws of Robotics calibration problem for some version of the Laws of Robotics they may be using. Would a non-genre writer at that time be thinking in terms of "programming priorities"?

Because of the way *I'm* wired, I point out that the robot is not just an effect, it is a costume. I may have made a note at the time of who was in the costume, but I don't know where to find it right now. IMDB says Rachael Ma.
