Audio playback unavailable is showing up on pretty much all YouTube videos which formerly presented copyrighted music.
Apparently what YouTube pays the creators of the music from it being viewed is no longer considered adequate, and so music will only be available there under more strongly monetized circumstances.

I have double-checked...
I first discovered this when looking for Bee Gees recordings.
So I checked to see if this affected less commercial and more obscure
music.
And I found it applies to Percy Faith and even Laila Kinnunen.

So YouTube will no longer be a place to discover new music.

It turns out the music is not actually unavailable. Videos shown as
suggestions behave normally; videos in search results indicate that
audio is unavailable, but this indication is spurious.

So it's just some kind of bug.

1) Since the indication that audio is unavailable is _spurious_, that
means that there _is_ sound, so that is not applicable.

2) That depends on the music video.

I was going to propose Queen, "I Want To Break Free",
which may be on there, somewhere.

Also somewhere I've taped and not yet watched a
"making of" feature about Kylie Minogue's "Come Into
My World", where she just strolls round four sides of
a busy square, singing, then meets... herself... and two
Kylies carry on performing around the square, then three.
The story may turn out to be less interesting than the
video, and I admit it may not say much about the song.

was actually happening was not that music was actually
not available, but rather that under some circumstances,

Google has been reworking its search engine. I do not say it has been
improving it, but apparently it's aimed at making the results more
monetizable for them.

It's hard for me to complain about things like that. I find the Google
search engine very useful. It's free of charge, and yet it costs a lot of
money to buy and run all the computers that are needed to provide
the service. So of course they have to make money from things like
selling advertising.
