Not, of course, to be confused with the slightly younger actor from TV's "Mama's Family"!

I'm in a bit of a rush, so...

While we are on the topic, Gloria Dea, actor and magician, died recently. Her SF connection was a role in the original "Plan 9" which
she said was a lot of fun to act in. She was also the first magician to perform on the Las Vegas strip.

Also, famed actor, writer, and occasionally producer, Gordon PInsent whose main SF connection was a role in "Colossus", discussed in
other threads recently. Though as his excellent movie "The Rowdyman" is his portrait of what he would have become had he
not had the chance to act, perhaps we can consider it to be alternative history.

That rings a faint bell.

I've read his novel _Engineman_ (1994) and the story collection
_Blue Shifting_ (1995). I'm afraid, I don't remember anything about
either.

i recently enough read his "The Serene Invasion", which was fine in a sort of
deliberately non-engaging sort of way. it had a wonderful _idea_: what if you
could no longer commit violence of any kind. problem was it never really
looked into that as a concept, preferring instead to portray people
deliberately attempting to subvert the prohibition, in very painting by
numbers fashion.

i do remember Eric, however, as the main SF Reviewer in the Guardian for many
years, and often found his recommendations to be both interesting and varied.
I know that there are authors in my "must read" list who i found thanks to his
generous and unstinting efforts to promote new authors.

he shall be missed.
