Five SF Stories About Moon Bases and Lunar Settlements

More exactly, stories written during the long hiatus of crewed
Lunar missions.

I definitely have read Varley's "The Barbie Murders". "Growing Up
Weightless" sounds familiar.

I found Andy Weir's "Artemis" book to be excellent moonbase book. The
low pressure pure oxygen environment and continuous fire watch freaked
me out but made sense.

Rogue Moon was written before then, but other than it should count, no?

I am convinced a return of humans to the lunar surface is no further off
than controlled commercial fusion.

Aside from objections by the manufacturer of the Aquarius data
processing system (and its predecessor, the Intellivision), could
the title have instead been changed because it could confuse
people, leading to think it belonged in the "True Crime" section
instead of the science-fiction section of bookstores... thanks to
a certain guy named Klaus?

Does this mean that you are not convinced that the Artemis III mission
is likely to take place as scheduled or nearly so?

I can't agree with that statement even at my most pessimistic. Because
it is not impossible that fusion might be tamed eventually, even if it takes
hundreds of years... and it is also possible that if Artemis III is cancelled,
even if human technological progress continues, so that we can advance
towards controlled fusion, it's possible we might just discard manned
space travel as useless for a very long time.

After all, unlike traipsing around on the Moon, fusion power has obvious
practical utility.

when I was in the hospital recovering from surgery back in the 90s.

Hey, those people traipsing around the Moon and Mars will be the last
survivors when the Invaders show up in a couple of years to save the
