I have deliberately not furnished the 'title' of the
poem in the caption.....

And, before proceeding to do so, and to post the complete
nazm, I would like to sort of apologize to Z.S. and other
womenfolk, who may be lurkers......

In recent years, I can't seem to recall any lady ALUPers.
There used to be a couple of them in earlier years.....

Well, the title of the poem is : "Anjuman-e-Zan~mureedaaN" !!

It can be rendered into English as "The Association of
Hen-pecked Husbands" !!

In most countries when population census is carried out, the
census-takers put numerous questions to the people, such as
total number of household members, languages known etc.

However, to my knowledge, nobody asks this question of the
menfolk ---> whether they should be "registered" under the
category of "hen-pecked husbands !

Maybe, they take it for granted, or "already asked and answered".

And, of course, they dare not ask this question of the
womenfolk !!

A N J U M A N E Z A N ~ M U R E E D A A N

Jab huwa naa~qaabil-e-bar'daasht istabdaad-e-zan
Zan~mureedoN ne banaaii ek KHufia aNjuman

Sadr~dafter ik khaN'Dar ki chaar~deewaari men tha
Taairaan-e-teera~shab ki jo 'amal~daari men tha

Door aabaadi se markaz is liye rakkha gaya
BegamoN ko is baGHaawat ka na chal jaae pata

Waqt-e-shab jab mahv-e-KHwaab-e-naaz hoteeN beebiyaaN
Misl choroN ke gharoN se baahar aate sab miyaaN

AahaToN par kaan dharte, ruk ke chalte, dauRte
Nisf shab tak sab pahuNch jaate wahaaN sahme huwe

ChaNd saa'at ki yeh aazaadi thi, itni jaaN~nawaaz
Bhool baiThe apne Haq men nek-o-bad ka imtiyaaz

Sherni ki zad se bach kar, toR ke zulfoN ka daam
"Ret ke Teele pe aahoo ka woh be~parda KHiraam"

Sab ke sab ik doosre se Haal-e-dil karte bayaaN
Kis ne kis Had tak kiya bar'daasht jaur-e-begamaaN

Darte Darte ek din sab ne yeh ki tajveez paas
Strike kar ke hum dil ki nikaaleNge bhaRaas

BeebiyoN ke saamne ab dum hilaayeNge na ham
JhiRkiyaaN kha kha ke un ki sar jhukaayeNge na ham

Bi Jamaalo ko na jaane kaise sun'gun mil gaya
JhaT se ik beebi ke ghar kar aayeeN is ka tazkira

Phir to kaanoN'kaan saare shehr men phailee yeh baat
Kis tarah yeh sar'kashi bar'daasht karteeN Begamaat

Intiqaami kar'rawaaii ki muhim jaari huwi
ANjuman par daf'atan shab'KHooN ki taiyyaari huwi

Meer-e-Majlis jaise hi taqreer karne ko uThe
Har Taraf Dais par chhapaa~maar daste chha gaye

MaNch ke chaaroN Taraf ghera kuchh itna saKHt tha
Bhaagne ka ek bhi shauhar na mauqa paa saka

Saf~ba~saf baiThe huwe the ek se ik naam'war
Kaise kaise maulvi, faazil, muHaqqiq, lecturer

Shaa'iraan-e-neem'wehshi, naaqideen-e-be'mahaar
Maah'naamoN, roz'naamoN ke mudeeraan-e-kabaar

Ghar ke baahar jo bane rehte the qaaleenoN ke sher
YooN the narGHe men ke jaise baNd pinjroN men baTer

BegamoN ne apne apne shauharoN ko DhooN'D kar
Belan-o-kaf'geer se ji bhar ke le Daali KHabar

MaNch par chaaroN Taraf maNzar tha daar-o-geer ka
"Seena-e-shamsheer se baahar tha dam shamsheer ka"

Al'amaaN woh beebiyoN ki zan~mureedoN se jhaRap
"AaKhir-e-shab deed ke qaabil thi bismil ki taRap"

Al'GHaraz sab piT'piTaa kar apne apne ghar chale
Sar'kashi ka shauq tha, woh shauq poora kar chale

Ghar ke baahar laakh akReN, eeN'Janaab o aaN'Janaab
Ghar ke aaNgan men raheNge woh sada KHaana'KHaraab

Mirza Ghalib ki ek mash'hoor ghazal ka ek misra' hai

Dho'e gaye hum itne ke bas paak ho gaye

Of course, he meant it in another sense......

But, can we not interpret it in the same sense as the theme
of the above poem ?

Thank you so much for sharing this delightful poem. I needed to read something just like this right now. It has changed my otherwise generally gloomy mood today, and actually made me laugh out loud. :-)

There is absolutely no need to 'sort of apologize' for posting this. Why would I mind it, I am all for 'Women Power'. :-))

You didn't mention the name of the poet, that makes me wonder maybe 'he' wants to stay anonymous out of fear ?! :-)))
