My achievements are real, yours are invented. Big difference! Huge!

Years ago, yeah! These days I'd rather just drive the cars. What's more,
a lot of mechanics around my age I know have come to the very same
conclusion. I don't have anything to prove - you apparently do!

Nothing astonishes Noddy so much as common sense and plain dealing.

Or that they have nothing better to do than sweep floors and polish

Pity most of it is wasted on a tool like him.
Anyway, mechanics in the trade have fully equipped workshops at their
disposal at the place they work so not all that critical.

And if the workshop looks like you could eat off the floor using the
tools as cutlery with tools in their unopened packaging in cabinets go
elsewhere, that workshop isn't busy and the bloke in it cares more about
image and is guaranteed to be a clueless blowhard.

Maybe he can weld, but that does not a qualified trade experienced
mechanic make. Obviously.

Thanks. I take pride in being a methodical worker who keeps a neat &
tidy workshop. Unlike some, I don't subscribe to the nonsensical view
that a workplace has to look like a tip to produce quality work :)

When I was at Richmond Campus, we had a well equipped workshops but
dungy old buildings. Then, in Dec. 1994, we moved into a huge new
building in Cremorne Street, Richmond. Workshops were huge and the only
departments in there were Motor Mechanics, Light Engines and Auto
electrical with motor mechanics occupying the majority of the space.
Brand new building, brand new gear. Had a chassis dyno, an engine dyno,
even a motorcycle dyno. All the automotive test equipment you could
shake a stick at. Wheel aligners, brake testers, it had the lot. Then in
2001 I retired and had limited access for a time. A few years back a new
campus was built at the Docklands, around the time I left Melbourne, and
everything was moved there. Not only that, but other departments moved
in as well, like vehicle body building, panel beating, painting, heavy
vehicle. The only problem was that the new building was smaller but had
more departments crammed into it. But the workshop layouts were much
similar.

Here's some workshops very much like the ones I had full access to. Only
these are *less spacious* than those in the Cremorne Street Campus.

And the only thing we didn't have, a full emissions lab

Remember how he used to bang on about mechanics not doing welding -
until Daryl told him he had learnt welding during his apprenticeship. I
laughed and laughed!

People tend to do that over time. I'm in the process of tossing some of
mine out. A lot more went over the past 10 years. Moving house every 10
years or so helps with the decision making processes. Our house house
have progressively grown larger, started with 10 squares, moved to 16,
now 22 with a double garage. This time I hope to be better prepared -
and get rid of the *stuff* before I make the next move, which will
probably be a downsizing.

Every time you post boring, trivial pix like this historic collection it
just begs the question, "So how about some pix of the fabled NA of the

Yep. The Big Shed was a pure vanity project. It never had a hope in
Bumhole (Vic) of 'recouping' any of its cost. Even if he charged his mum
for working on her Getz. And I suppose the wife didn't oppose it as it
gets him out of her way while he's in there pretending to work.

Yes and no, if they had the parking space and didn't mind paying an
extra rego and insurance they could have kept it as a run around to keep
the km down on the new car but at the time they didn't have the space.
They would have got a bit more if they sold it privately but the used
car market was different 8-9yrs ago to what it is now and no one wanted
it, he could of tried harder to sell it but in the end he thought that
it was just easier to trade it and take the loss.

AFAIK the 4cyl engine had chains which could be problematic, the V6 had
a t belt.

You got busted talking bullshit about stuff you clearly have no idea about.

Best price I can see anywhere is for Melling MR-740 rocker arms which is
a direct replacement for both the 4L and 2.5L engines, and they can be
had from places like Summit Racing or Jeggs in the US for just under 9
bucks US a piece.

A full set landed here in real money is probably going to run you around
270 bucks or so.

ROTFL what a pathetic simile, Stephen Hawkins certainly wasn't lame in
any sense. In the physical sense, he'd have to be able to walk to be lame.
