I've never sold anything on eBay but I'd like to know if there are tools that the seller can use to modify the categories of feedback one may choose to receive.

I bought a second-hand item from eBay. When I received it I was disappointed because although none of the seller's description was untrue, none of the pictures were fake, had I know the true situation I would never have bought it in the first place. That's life, caveat emptor etc etc.

When filling in the feedback response, I selected neutral instead of positive or negative for my overall impression. But as I worked my way down the categories, the usual final questions didn't appear. No opportunity to give 1-5 stars for delivery time, accuracy of description (the one I was interested in, of course) seller communication etc, etc. Sometimes Seller Communication goes missing if there were no communication, delivery time doesn't show up if the system already knows it was delivered but Accuracy of Description has gone? Come on now, give me a break!

Any thoughts?

I'm not going to make a fuss about this because after all, nothing the seller said was actually untrue but I'd like to know why my opportunity to comment disappeared.

Thanks
Nick

I don't think so. I think there is an appeals process, but they often give
buyers the benefit of the doubt. I imagine the categories of feedback are
determined by the type of listing it was.

That sounds fair for a neutral - they do stand out in the seller's feedback
profile, just as much as negs do.

On an item I collected, I have:

Item description
Dispatch time
Seller communication

On an item that was posted, it only has:

Item description

(presumably dispatch time comes from the tracking, and I didn't message them
so no communication)

On one without free postage it also gets:

Postage costs

Going through my history I can't find any without an item description entry.

Maybe if the seller didn't actually write anything in the description box
(ie the listing was just the headline text, condition line plus photos) they
don't have the field for the description?
The way ebay hide away the description on the mobile app means some buyers
don't read it, and maybe sellers don't bother filling it in.

I didn't want to do that because ultimately I know that I wasn't cavet enough as an emptor. I just wanted to find out how the star system works - especially the item description - and searching the eBay site hasn't got me anywhere. Ah well, another experience to chalk up to... ..experience
