Hi:

Curious bug in Valentina's MacBook Pro yesterday. The machine was entirely
unresponsive to the mouse or trackpad click. Same with an external USB mouse
- we could move the mouse normally, and right-click, but the standard
left-click just didn't work. It was the same for all users (although it was
hard to log in as other than the default user since we could only control the
Mac using the keyboard). Resetting the PRAM didn't help, as didn't booting in
Safe Mode.

Finally fixed it by going to the recovery partition and re-installing the OS,
but still... Has anyone else ever seen this?

I had something similar years ago with an old MacBook but cured it with a reboot. There
seems to be lots of advice on the net on how to overcome the problem but I can't find
anything describing what could cause the problem. Presumably the MBP is up to date macOS-wise?

I think this is not relevant anyway. More important is the integrity of
the OS and not its patch level.

In such a situation it is impossible to judge the integrity without
forensic tools. In my opinion the OP has done the right thing to start
with a clean sheet.

I do not know or use this software. There was never a need to do so.

Of course. I've re-installed macOS many times over the years in attempts
to cure problems when other methods have failed.
