Would taking a 2000 Honda Civic with 175K on the odometer across the
Nullabor be a stupid thing to do?

Would it kill the car? Would there be a potential for the car to break
down?

The car was serviced recently and there were no reported problems.

you would need to be well prepared with extra petrol, water, and
communication equipment. (not sure if mobile phones work all the way
across it?). would the car break down? who knows, but it could.

Would it damage or weaken the car, or shorten it's life?

Plenty of fuel along the way these days, the stops between servos is
less now than when I did the trip a very long time ago and a typical
tankful would easily get you to the next.

Mobiles do work all the way. Not sure if all carriers have the coverage
but this can be easily checked as the carriers have coverage maps.

If you are worried about that, simple solution - don't go. You will
clock up a lot of kilometres in a short time and that will shorten its
life. If you are concerned, go by plane or train and rent a car at the
other end. I used to do that in the past and I have even rented a car to
do very long trips too.

Relatives of mine want to use my car to go into WA.

They live 400km from Perth which means they are not allowed to drive
home from the airport because there is a 200km limit.

If they enter WA by car at the WA/SA border, the limit is increased to
1500km so they would be able to drive home.

If Felix wasn't so dumb he could easily read that I said fly "home",
most reasonable size towns have airports so its odds on that a town/city
400km from Perth would have an airport.
For example Geraldton is approx 400km for Perth and the airfare to fly
from Perth to Geraldton is about $207.00 per person.
The cost of transporting a car from Geraldton to Sydney is somewhere
between $1-2000.00 plus the costs of driving there.
