Somewhere, Wessie wrote about a shortage of tyres in GS sizes. (I can't
find it right now).

I was just checking the Turby machine and it's got the wrong size/type
[1] front on it. I'm surprised NOBODY DIED.

Googling Metzeler it seems they make a tyre contructed/designed
especially for the GS - anyone know what the real differences are?

Both sizes do appear to be available online.

[1] Currently fitted a 110/80 r19, recommended is a 120/70 r19 type B

where did you get the 120/70 spec from?

Looking at the Metzeler "my bike" section they say 110/80

As does Michelin

I don't think anyone gives a shit about "special" tyres for the GS.

If you are only using it on road, fit a sport touring tyre like Conti Road
Attack or Metzeler Roadtec O1 SE.

The 890 Adventure came with the updated Avon Trailrider OEM.
They are jolly good, scrubbed in quickly to the edge, stable on the edge, lots of grip and pretty handy on forest type trails as well.
But you absolutely don't have the same lean angle potential as road rubber and tarmac misbehaviour wears them quickly, so unless one is going off road it's a no...except the 890 has a proper 21" front wheel so it's that or "cruiser" tyres.

I always liked the Tourances on the R1100GS. Nice and cheap, relatively
long lived and well behaved enough for my riding.
