Appears to be down. The error page says "Invalid Slice" and "Unknown error".

Downdetector shows a peak in fault reports starting a few minutes ago,.

Is it just me?

At least one. A friend owned a pickup truck that was rejected by Nova
Scotia safety inspection due to a deteriorated frame. Investigating,
he learned that the manufacturer had issued a 10 year guarantee for
the frame, that it was still in effect and it was just a couple of
months short of expiring. He was guaranteed a new frame or comparable
replacement.

But the company's Canadian branch referred him tho the US bracnch
because the truck had originally been sold in the USA. The US branch
in turn referred him back to the Canadian branch because the truck was
physically in Canada. Eventually, after days of phone calls, he ended
up being ping-ponged back and forth between two individuals, one in
each country.

His wife decided to join the fray. She went to Farcebook, located the
US company rep, the US half of the ping-pong game, and publicly
addressed him in that venue, asking pertinent and (I infer) embarassing
questions about his professional/occupational responsibilities and
integrity.

The problem was resolved in favor of a replacenent truck at no
additional charge within a couple of days.

True I suppose. There are a fair few small local businesses which only
seem to operate via a mobile phone and a facebook page.

Yebbut, that's "the web". Facebook is only a glorified set of web-pages
with added parasites, it isn't necessary for its own sake. People were
in contact with each other before it came along, and will continue to be
after it's become unfashionable.

Yebut. When I try to contact some local one-man businesses they hardly
ever answer their phone, & faceburk seems the only other way they
interact with the outside world.

If I want a tradesperson I use Checkatrade or simlar - 'swotitsfor, innit.

I have quite a different use for Facebuk. I have an extensive collection of
fiends and rellies (of whih I am the oldest). They have trained SWMBO and I
to keep in touch by social meja, Facbook being the most common channel. I
like to keep in touch with my family, and as they all use farcebook it is
the most convenient channel for keeping in touch with them. We've been
facebooking each other for many years. It aint gonna change soon.

I'm sure we've been round this circuit before in the shed.

I suppose the first thing to say is that I just wouldn't find out
about any business that only had a presence on Facebook. The second
thing is that, suppose I did find out about them, I would be very wary
of using them for anything involving a continuing relationship because
they just might suddenly become invisible. This sort of story is only
one of thousands:
<https://www.bizjournals.com/bizjournals/how-to/marketing/2016/10/my-facebook-business-page-was-deleted.html>

Amongst the golden rules I learned about business were always have a
second source for any component you buy in and never let any customer
take more than 20% of your output. I think these days one ought to add
(and maybe business gurus do) never keep all your business presence
eggs in one basket. See? It's not even a new rule.

Agreed. Example, that the AMD chipmaking exists is that Intel does not
want to be thought an monopoly.

A lot of newbies think that Facebook has been around a long time. Not
true, there was another just like it before ((I forget the name?. Bebo
or something like that))?

Youtube is also notorious for that, any deviation from it, your video is
banned, and also all the other videos that you published before.

Gotta love those algorithms.
I watched a youtube video recently which covered the structure of city
states in ancient Greece.
It kept referring to "domestic workers" where it made no sense - but
they then explained that YouTube would either de-monetise, or delete the
video, if the word "slave" was mentioned (without actually using that
word in the explanation).

There were several, Classmates, MySpace and Bebo were the major ones
before Facebook but there were others. Facebook steamrollered them all
because it was designed by psychologists to be addictive.

These are the rules for a successful productive business that
trades in profit, last a lifetime and will one day probably be inherited or
sold as a going concern.

They are not quite the same as the rules for milking Wall Street for
maximum gain where perception matters more than reality, growth is essential
and everyone has an exit strategy timed for before the bubble bursts and
somebody ohls the name.

Guess which approach makes the most billionaires (and bankrupts).
