Had a "variable" weekend at Gurston Down hillclimb. A very close battle
in my class which I ended up losing by 0.07s. Great fun with both of us
breaking class records to get there.

On the downside, a fellow competitor literally dropped dead right behind
me after the first timed run on Saturday. He was only 55. New to
hillclimbing but he already had made a welcome addition to the club.
Along wth the marshalls we did all we could before the paramedics
arrived but ultimately they were unable to save him. Not something I
wish to experience again.

Fuck. Coming off the TT, I've again had to mentally process the death
and injury that is ab unavoidable part of the event. But none of us
expect a competitor to fall down dead behind us in the paddock

Ha. No, there are a few younger riders, though not many. I suspect there'll be a need to start actively promoting the sport at some point, as the older riders gradually pack it in. Either that or let it die, which wouldn't be my preference.

The problem is, at least until this year, we couldn't accomodate too
many new people even if they were around because they can't get an entry
at many of the events.
