Being a comparitive short-arse (1.70m) I am quite surprised that I can
put both feet flat on the floor at standstill (1997 Honda NTV 650),
must be a low seat or something? I've noticed that when stopping at
traffic lights I start with my legs behind the foot rests but then
quickly move them in front as it is more comfortable for blast off.
What do others do?

I'm only slightly taller but take a 32" inside leg trouser, well 31" would
be better. Height is not directly proportional to leg length. If I had an
actual neck, I would be 6 foot.

I can flat foot a standard R1200GS or Yamaha Super Tenere. Gyp is a little
taller than me and he can only get one foot down on these if he slides an
arse cheek off the seat.

As for leg position, it varies but I always seem to be scraping my right
shin on a peg which suggests I go behind the peg. On my S1000XR, if I stand
up, both feet down, to relieve my arse at traffic lights then I am in front
of the pegs so that I am at the narrow part of the seat.

Indeed, as I found out a couple of decades ago when my waist went up to
36" from 34", my inside leg length went down from 34" to 32".

Yes, that's right, 34"/34" to 36"/32" - for no change in height I must add!
Waist (not waste) is obviously a factor.

HTH, etc

Being a giraffe, I've never had a problem putting my feet down, or
getting a leg over. I did have a problem on the GS, though, in shifting
from 1st to 2nd. My knee, being so far forward, meant that my toes were
pointing down, not forward. Dunno why it didn't affect the upper gears.

It's not that your legs got shorter, it's that your arse got bigger and
hung lower.

I don't know why you wouldn't have just adjusted the linkage to angle

Simple - I had more important things to do in life. It was a minor
inconvenience.

Your height has nothing to do with it, it's your leg length.

Have you seen Wessie?

Myself and Horse are a good example of my problem. We are now both
exactly the same height, but I take a 28" inside leg and him a 32".

Both 5'10" but 4" difference in leg length.

He has no problem flat footing bikes that I couldn't even consider. And
then he laughs at me.

What I really don't get is that he adjusts the adjust the car seat
closer to the wheel than I do so his legs must be in some weird
contorted position.

I know I've mentioned it before many times but the BMW configuratior
that used to be on their web page, that would only accept my leg length
if I adjusted my height down to 5'6" or so, then when I added my waist
measurement the avatar morphed into the spitting image of Cartman from
South Park. Then to add insult to injury then informed me that I was
unable to ride any of their motorcycles.

Bastards.

OK, I get that. Now subtract another 4" in height and add 4" in leg length.

I can comfortably touch the floor on all bar the GS Adventure. I can
only just see over many screens and often have my head in the dirty air
where a 6 footer would probably be in the bubble of clean air

That's a different thing all together. In a car [1], I have the seat
much further forward than almost everyone I know, because I seem to
use my knee joint rather than my ankle joint to press the pedals
