I've always confused trifle and ambrosia
although they are probably totally different.
I've become addicted to these imported
ginger cookies - packaged differently in UK
vs Canada -- they are quite magical ..

Ambrosia, I goove, is the food of the Gods, or a brand name for some
tinned milk puddings, custard, &c.

Trifle is crumbled dried sponge cake with jelly and often sherry,
allowed to set, than covered with custard -again, properly, egg custard
- (but I eschew that) - and topped with whipped cream. Nowt else.

I make an augmented version with an added layer of jelly over the
cake-crumbletstoff, with fruit in it, cornflour-type custard, often
containing thinly-sliced banananananas, topped with whipped cream and
flaked almonds.

To err is human. To really foul things up requires a computer and the BOFH.

It simply has to have those tiny ball bearings on top - if it's to be
anything like my Granny's recipe.
