In the end though, arguing over an unprovable god or how to choose religious
leaders seems all rather pointless if the world will be too hot to live in
anyway soon.

I think we could have the Eurovision dictator contest. The winner gets to
run Europe for five years. A bit like the Alan Sugar thing.

It was only worth watching when Terry Wogan did the commentary on it.
The new people they have had since are really either snide or smarmy.

It all went south too when they let far too many countries in it so they
have to have heats, semi finals and finals, cos it means that those who
missed the heats might actually have heard a real tune.
I guess we must not take it too seriously really. Its just knock about fun
for most.

That only came in 2nd anyway.

Sing little birdy was a little bit cheesy though, you have to admit.
Mind you a lot of songs that did not win it have gone on to spawn many
recordings. Love is Blue comes to mind, and what was that one Selene Dion
sung for Switzerland called?

I liked its tune anyway.

Yes autotune and digital double tracking and chorusing are annoying. Even
some quite good singers use these effects in their recordings, and its quite
obviously a bad move. I heard Michael Bubble singing one of his latest songs
live on the BBC, and he has a good expressive voice, yet the one on the
album has been marred by exceptionally close making, compression and some
kind of low level chorusing effect that makes it sound like its a robot at
times. The Shires have recently befallen the same fate since they started
recording in Nashville, maybe the American market likes that sort of sound,
but give me natural sounds and wide dynamic range any day. You can even hear
it in places on Carole Kings Living room Tour album. I mean her voice is
supposed to be rough, that is half the charm of it.

Have you heard Ican be that Woman from their Voyage album. Its kind of
almost country, but the harmonies near the end made me tingle.

Stuart Hall was just a presenter in the UK working for the BBC,
hewas nothing to do with running the thing. It's a Knockout was a Europe
wide thing derived from a French original intended (like the Eurovision
song contest) to let the Tommies, Bosch, Frogs, Wops etc. see each other as
people instead of enemies.

I've seen a lot of Les Pauls but I've never seen one with a tail
piece like that.

The Gibson catalogue changed from year to year so what was on offer in
1967 might not have been around in 1969. I only started working for
Gibson in the early 70s and the only Les Pauls with Bigsbys that
passed through my hands were special orders. The SGs with Bigsbys were
catalogue items though.

Why stop there?
Have a few retrospectives like Eurovision winner for the 14th Century.
It would be harder to vote on nationalist grounds, since a fair number
of countries have only come into existence since that time.

Bigsby trems were a mod that was done to various Gibsons, SGs and 335s
as well as Les Pauls.

That Les Paul looks gorgeous but absolutely filthy. I wonder if it was
only "unplayable" because whoever assessed it was afraid of catching
something from it.
