All was going fine this afternoon but it was left off during a heavy shower of rain, now it won start.
Its getting petrol but I fitted a new fuel filter anyway.
Its getting spark but again I fitted a new spark plug any way
Battery is good.
What could the problem be ?

Pass. The Kohler engine in my Johnserad was prone to fill up with fuel
leading to backfiring on startup. I fitted a manual shut off valve in
the fuel line.
Some lawn tractors have a *low oil* sensor but you checked the spark..
