Surrey police claim to be doing something like it

low hanging fruit to begin with - the ones that have the letters in the
correct font & size but spaced in an attention seeking format.

The guy arguing the toss about ANPR and 4D (time travel?) plates is amusing.

I think the issue with those is that it can take you away from the real
reg, causing some time loss between finding the hit and run driver etc.

I followed a link to https://www.number1plates.com/ where you can find
out about 4D plates. To quote them:

"What makes a number plate 4D?
As explained above, the term ‘4D’ is just what the industry refers to
them as, in order to distinguish between them and 3D Gel plates.
Unfortunately, our 4D car plates don’t travel through time just yet…"

Basically, you get a yellow acrylic numberplate and cut out black
acrylic numbers and letters and stick them on the plate.
