I bought a Sandisk 64gb USB2 stick at Office Works to download files off
a computer running Windoze 7 Home Premium. when I insert it I get the
'ding' of recognition, but it doesn't show up in 'This PC'. I have tried
it on other computers running Win7 and Win10 and they all 'see' it, and
any other USB sticks I try can be seen, including a 64gb USB3 stick. I
have checked device manager and there are no warning marks, and I ran
driver update software to update all drivers. Any ideas anyone?

You could take the stick back to Officeworks and get a refund or
exchange. They have a very good returns policy. Maybe try a different
brand or model.

Try reformatting it on another computer. Try formatting to, say, FAT16
or FAT32 first and see if it then sees it. If it does, then format it to
whatever you want it to be, ie NTFS or, in my case, GUID. I run Sandisk
as well as others and I rarely have issues, and then only if I have
formatted it to some *exotic* format and Windoze gets confused. I am
assuming you haven't formatted it from the initial it came with.

I haven't formatted it, just used as it came. I tried the reformat as
you suggest, but still no go. it's weird that it won't work only on that
PC (in any usb slot) and I'm at a loss for an explanation. I will do as
Max suggests and get a refund and get something else.

by putting it in a win10 PC I see it's formatted as exFAT, and I don't
get the option to format as FAT32 only NTFS. pity there's no mention of
the format on the packaging when purchasing. rather poor effort from
SanDisk.

Windows always refuses to format drives over 40GB in size as FAT32
just because it can. This program will format drives up to 2TB or
more, then you shouldn't have any problems (unless you want to save
a file more than 4GB in size, which is the problem exFAT solves):

thanks heaps for that. :) saved me the trouble of having to go back to
Office Works. Interesting tho, another SanDisk 64gb stick I bought at
the same time was formatted fat32. It was USB3 tho, so would that be
relevant to the formatting?

Hmmm, I get a much greater range of format options on a Mac.

Yes, that's why I've used exFAT, among others, in the past - that

It's probably just different factories making the different models,
which probably explains why they don't mention the format on the
packaging because they're not entirely sure themselves. Being
USB2/3 wouldn't have anything to do with it.
