I have just bought a used iPhone Xr 64GB running iOS 14.6, frankly seems a
bit crude compared to my Poco X3 NFC but I will give it a try.

I have a manual on my iPad Air but it's for iOS 13.x. Trouble is I have no
option to search or find books because as soon as I open the Books
application it opens this book and tapping or sweeping in from the sides
doesn't bring up a menu (it's visible for a millisecond before this book
opens).

Can anybody tell me how I bring the menu up so I can try and find the
right manual please?

Tap on the open book, and tap the < at the top of the screen?
