surprised that 63% will jump to 11
maybe we will see 3 year-old PCs flooding Gumtree as people upgrade?

Unless MS walk back a lot of the minimum requirements, there's no chance
63% have machines that'll take it.

That's the problem with internet Poll's, no one knows who has taken part
in them. The 63% could all be MS employees.

People are installing it on Raspberry Pis and Lumia phones, so there are
likely to be plenty of machines that will take it. It's just a question of
what hoops they have to jump through and what level of support they might
get at the end of it.

I could well imagine a 'patcher' style utility that makes it work on PCs
that are not officially supported, maybe with a few features disabled.
Businesses will buy new machines to be on the official track for the
support/security maintenance, but MS may find that a lot of home machines
are running it 'unofficially'. They may or may not care about that, it's
hard to say.

Will they? The corporations I worked for never seemed that fussed about
upgrading previous hardware or versions of windows. That was back when
there were really significant upgrades to be had. A machine that was a
few years old was historic. Also they still gave us a 32 bit OS long
after cheap RAM made a 64 bit OS a huge advantage.

Why would they upgrade now? When a good 10 year old PC is still
reasonably competitive with new machines. When Win10 offers few
significant advantages over Win7? I can't see Win 11 being a show
stopper. The technology is pretty mature.

So spend cash on PC upgrades or dividends to share holders...

Because windows7 ESU costs more and more each year, and doesn't run past
2023.

I meant why buy new hardware to upgrade to Win 11 (from 10 or whatever).

I only mentioned 7 to illustrate the limited advance in the technology.
Win 10 support goes until 2025.
