Some would argue the dance hall was a legitimate military target because Russian soldiers were in attendance even if not actively engaged in any conflict.

The problem with that argument is it justifies the killing of Lee Rigby as a legitimate military target, justifies the killing of all other military personnel not actively engaged in any conflict.

And if Menshikh is merely considered acceptable collateral damage rather than an innocent civilian who was murdered it creates even worse possibilities.

If there is an IDF soldier holidaying in Britain who accompanies his child to Great Ormond Street Hospital, it legitimises Hamas targeting that hospital, killing all the babies, children, staff and everyone else there, in a legitimate attempt to kill that soldier.

That's the argument Israel is using to justify their attacks on hospitals, schools and other civilian targets in Gaza and the West Bank.

That's the view our government and America's is agreeing with. Though, being masters of hypocrisy, it's different should anyone do that to us. Then it's obviously terrorism or a war crime.
