I've had a pathological disinterest in football for a very long time.
It's not the game itself that caused my reaction, it's the boodly
football supporters. Why such tribalism exists in the context of a game
is a mystery to me. You don't get it in cricket. Unless it's India vs
Pakistan of course.

Did you see a TV series about fifteen years ago which was called The
Real Football Factories? And then a follow-up series called The Real
Football Factories International? They were really bad times. I think
that in the UK things have mostly calmed down now - with the minor
exception of games like the recent Huddersfield (Motto: 'Juvat
impigros Deo', meaning 'God aids the diligent') vs. Millwall (Motto:
"No one likes us, we don't care") resulting in minor scuffles:

I think that football violence in the UK has mostly morphed into
WhatsApp groups which scheme at co-ordinated attempts to get into
matches for free. Remember Wembley (you must remember firwork-man)
where the police and organisers were completely unprepared for the
very sophisticated attacks on security and thousands of ticketless
supporters who broke into the ground? Remember Paris where the total
disorganisation of the local authorities put the plot by some schemers
to get thousands of people into the stadium with fake tickets into the
shadows? My impression is that football hooliganism has moved online
for its organisation and has become more clever.

I wish I could say the same about football hooliganism here in
Argentina.

The trouble is that the "Barras Bravas" who are at the heart of all
this football-related violence are very useful people to have around
