Any recommendations – or “gotchas” to avoid – for email only hosting please?

Background is I have for some time looked after a handful of domains for
family & friends which they use for purely personal purposes. I can no
longer find really cheap hosting packages for them. But they are all
content to switch to email only services given how easy it is these days
to share photos etc without a personal website.

PS
General gripe after looking at offers from Zoho, Namecheap, CIX etc is
that they give bugger all details of what you can and can't do with
their plans. E.g. I have a couple of people who use 2 domains with 1
mailbox on one and 2 on t'other. Fucked if I can see if that is
possible with a package for 3 mailboxes.

PPS
I don’t want to switch to a single account hosting all their domains.
Apart from anything else, too much hassle for them and my executor come
the (ever closer) day.

How much are these people expecting to spend (on top of the domain fees)
per mailbox?

I've used Mythic Beasts mail hosting:
https://www.mythic-beasts.com/hosting
The cheapest tier is £2/month.

Unlike many hosts they don't care how many domains you have on the account,
it's just done by storage size - the £2 tier is 2GB. You don't need to host
the domain with them.

You get the usual IMAP, SMTP and Roundcube webmail. You can optionally have
shell access as well for a small increase. One peculiarity is you have to
select which server your mail is on to login to webmail - there's about
half a dozen.

It all works fine as far as I can see, and that are responsive you contact
them.

Thanks. That sounds promising for the ones who have more than one domain.

If that's per annum, I'm probably pissing into the wind suggesting
£3.80+VAT/month, but you do get 50GB mailbox SMTP/IMAP, I don't really
like any webmail but you can use it in a pinch, plus 1TB of cloud
storage ... MS 365 basic for business.

thanks but your judgement was spot on. (These are all pensioners; and
some even meaner than me - especially if they think I'm being too idle
to get them a better deal.)

I use Mythic Beasts and their service is extremely reliable. Maybe a
decade now? I have my domain with them as well.

I was going to add AOL but it might be misunderstood in the circumstances
so me too, +1 for Mythic Beasts.

Slight detour, but: has anyone any experience in migrating email between
IMAP servers? eg if I were to move my brother's cheap fasthost account
to mythic beasts...

Thanks, J^n

You just mount them both on one client app, and copy (or move) stuff
