It's been a long time since I rented a car, but we are off to Greece in
Jan for a couple of weeks and have been using up all my BA airmiles.

The car hire(Avis) is booked with airmiles, with no options at booking
time for excess/waiver insurance.

From memory it can be quite hefty at the hire desk.

In the past I used to have an annual cover for such things, but am
behind the curve.

So before I start trawling the net, what is the current favourite to go
with?

First call your own actual insurance company to see if the coverage on your daily car covers it in any way, and if not, if it can be extended.

Second, call your credit card companies to see if it's included with their bundle of benefits.

Then, I dunno...google? By the time I got to #2, I was sorted.

In the UK, unlikely.

Amex does it for me. It's an opt-in program but it's a flat $20 per
rental which is quite reasonable in my view. Never claimed on it,
so it might be a nightmare scenario if I ever need to.

For some reason the Monty Python insurance sketch comes to mind.

most insurance questions can be answered by asking MSE (Martin Lewis)
https://www.moneysavingexpert.com/travel/cheap-car-hire/#needtoknow-6

bought a few products clicking through the links on MSE and would do it
again. Insurance, ISP & mobile deals.

Yep, been having a gander at that. I'm just wary of cheap deals from
unknown brands.

Current baseline is the RAC £39.99 for 10 days

We used Cover for You in 2019 for Crete and Insurance 4 Car Hire from
Swinton in September this year for Corsica. Didn't have to claim from
either, but they see reasonable enough.

Used to use I4CH, last decade. They come it at £40, which I thought was
reasonable, but then I hat a look at Which
https://www.which.co.uk/reviews/car-hire/article/car-hire-advice/car-hire-insurance-aqd1p9P5n1Rs

And it it looks like a toss up between Eversure and Chewinsurance[1] who
come in at £20.

I've used Insurance4CarHire as well, though perhaps not the same one as it seems to be part of Carole Nash. Easy to set up, but didn't have to claim.

My only experience is with insurance4carhire.com and the claim process was
