I think that lead times are such that she writes about a "month" but it
is then a question of when it appears - apparently it is in the physical
paper some days before it appears online to give real readers reason for
buying the paper.

And they do not have to wear any disguise, special clothes or have
medical processes . They just need to declare they are the sex they
want to be.

This causes problems in women onlyspaces. They arenot allowed torefuse
them. Examples are hospital wards and choice of hospital staff. There
have been cases where say ' I only want a female Dr or nurse ' is met
with the response this person (looking male0 is female if she says she
is. Another problem is in women's prisons and refuges for abused
women. Objecting to this is not allowed. JK Rowling got a lot of
twitter abuse for objecting.

If the objectors get their way I'd better be careful not to get myself
raped or sexually abused and in need of support or a refuge then. I
should avoid being seriously ill (Queen Lizzie's in Glasgow, where I
have been admitted several times with asthma complications, is all
single rooms and not a bad experience if you're going to be
hospitalised, but I haven't experienced Edinburgh RI yet. I've certainly
been in female wards before without any problem). Oh, and I'd better
avoid breaking the law (maybe for some dissident political action not
for actual robbery or murder) in case I'm sent to Saughton or Barlinnie
to the delight of the sex-starved inmates, rather than Cornton Vale.

Joanne Rowling says she was abused by her first husband and that is
appalling. BUT THAT'S NOT MY BLOODY FAULT. She has no right to take it
out on me and yes, I do take it very personally and I find it downright
offensive.

There's a great modern tradition of inventing solutions for problems
which either don't exist or exist in statistically insignificant
proportions as a way of looking busy without actually affecting
anything. And (as you point to with the example of the first Mr Rowling)
avoiding doing anything about a real problem whose solution might be
hard and contentious.

Obviously breaking news gets featured online before it goes to print
but some other things work that way too.

Quite recently there was a Brief Letter in The Guardian Brief Letters
in the thread about the best time of day to read Brief Letters and it
concluded that online between 6pm and 7pm was best because then you
would know whether your own Brief Letter had appeared in the online
edition in which case you would expect to see it in the print edition
the following morning.
