Trev,

Just a quick follow up regarding the cartridge on my kid's record
player. The replacement stylus finally arrived today after being in
transit for 2 weeks (thanks Ozpost) and while fitting it I took this
picture for you:

You mentioned that a photo of the cartridge and it's means of fitting
may enable you to recommend a replacement that takes a more commonly
available stylus, and if you're able to do that I would be very grateful.

I can save you about 15 Bucks off retail. You will probably need to
adjust the tracking force to suit, as I think the new cartridge is a
little lighter than the original. The replacement stylus for the PC05
costs me 12 Bucks. All figures are ex-freight costs.

Thanks Trevor. I'll get one from you. At this stage I have to try to
repair the thing tomorrow as the wires broke off the cartridge connector
as I was clipping it back in after taking the photo.

Fuck it....

**VERY small, needle nosed pliers are required. And great care. The
wires are very thin and fragile. But, I guess you've worked that out by now.

Yep :)

They look like they were soldered in place, but I'll have to have a
better look in the workshop with my magnifier.

**Highly likely soldered. A fine tipped soldering iron will be required.
I have a couple of tips that are almost as fine as sewing needles. A
jeweller's loupe' is often required for old farts like me.

It'll be the same here too :)

I picked up a new soldering/desoldering station this morning, as my old
Weller is erratic and the cheapie soldering iron I bought to replace it
a couple of years ago went up in smoke last time I turned it on.

Bought one of these from Jaycar:

> https://www.jaycar.com.au/esd-safe-solder-desolder-rework-station/p/TS1648?gclid=Cj0KCQjwyMiTBhDKARIsAAJ-9VufwH5YRxAUGxvDjSbln3C0aPxbM_fBOtVuhPsvE0RQ4Q-pavYmsc0aAomkEALw_wcB

Probably junk to a professional, but for someone like me who is lucky to
solder anything 3 or 4 times a year it will hopefully be fine.

He's the same with *everything*. Might not be obvious to those that
don't have an automotive background but to those that do, he goes in
like a bull to a gate and then ends up fucking it up because he doesn't
know what he is doing and doesn't have the skills (or tools) to do it
properly.

You need to work on your technique, use the right diameter solder, right
(very fine) size tip and right temperature... and magnification.

Don't stupidly go in blind without the right tools and skillset and fuck
it up... again.

the tone arm wires should NEVER be soldered onto the cartridge
terminals. you can melt the plastic of the cartridge and sever the wires
connecting the cartridge pins. small slide on connectors are used to
connect the tone arm wires to the cartridge pins. you should know this.
I have many of them. I will post a pic.

You got that wrong.

The Noddy method, after cocking it up, learn nothing from people
laughing at him and make bullshit excuses - just like he did with the
Lotus Elise hoist lift on the *side jacking points* - CLOWN!

I've been doing this stuff for well over 50 years.

Focus on the words: "Cartridge connector".

OK?

He's good at it, but then he's one of the dickheads himself and this
bullshit offering from him here is just his relevance deprivation
disorder hard at work. This has nothing whatsoever to do with him, and
his "advice" was either needed or sought. I'm dealing with Trevor, who
is a professional, and this irrelevant dickhead sticking his nose in as
if his "permission" is required is utterly ridiculous.

Seriously, if I wanted to hear from a junior with delusions of grandeur
I'd ask the kid across the street.

Massive amusement value from the mudflap fitter who's claim to fame
around here is wiring up a set of accessory lights, huh?

He should just learn to shut the fuck up and mind his business :)
