It's working for me (if you can read this). Have you got Always ask for
authentication checked in server settings, Anne? You should have. That's

It might have been that she could "read" umra but not download "new"
headers/messages.

There was a blip, as another poster said, with eternal september yesterday.

I'm not sure that would have helped much. There isn't much that can go
wrong if it has already been set up and working. I was wondering (a chap
has to do something at 3am on a cold snowy morn) whether Anne uses
multiple IDs. There is something in the Eternal September
terms/FAQs/whatevers that says if you use more than 5(?) identities
within a certain period you get blocked for 24 hours as an anti spam
measure. Other than that it sounds like a really strange and interesting
problem that Anne should feel lucky to be singled out to experience.

Sadly, I seem to have created a strange and interesting problem with gmail,
by careless (or strange and interesting) use of filters :(

This means that:
*nothing* ever gets sent to spam
All my sent posts stay in the Inbox
A load of posts from (probably) several people/organisations get marked as
read and archived as soon as they arrive, so I tell people I have not
received their email - they re send - I don't see it...

I've been aware of this for a while and did solve it for one of the places
whose messages were not appearing. I realised that, since the company I
originally dealt with was bought out, the standard footer on their emails
included a plea to "Find us on Facebook". My filter for stuff _from_
Facebook was doing it (I must have done something wrong) - I deleted the
filter, reset some preferences on Facebook and found the missing emails by
searching on the domain name.

The latest problem is exercise sheets from the Physio I've been seeing. I
checked he had my email right but failed to ask what address they were
coming from.

I guess I should find and check all the filters I've set over the years -
not entirely sure how to do that. I think Google have changed the way they
auto-fill the form when you tell it to create a filter recently.

As for 'Never send to spam' - one of the options on the form - I know I
have used it on one or two specific correspondents, but how did it get
applied to everything?
