The talking of a guard on the off stump or even outside the offstump is the latest attack on batting techniques.

It has these effects:

It allows a batsman to know where his offstump (a batsman should know that even if he takes a leg stump guard.)

It greatly restricts the range of shot a batsman can play.

It means the batsman is a walking LBW candidate

It means the batsman is exposed to being bowled on the middle or leg stump , especially so if a yorker is bowled.

You confuse one eccentric who can make the eccentricity work with the generality of batsmen who cannot. RH
