I'm doing a review of my various mobile phone contracts:

Tablet
Dual SIM mobile
Partner's mobile

My second SIM in the dual SIM phone is an EE data only contract i.e.
doesn't make/receive phone calls.
Even to 150.
EE web site for my account says to phone 150 to cancel account.
Can you say "Catch 22" children?

There is a phone number which comes up (although well hidden) to call from
other networks.

However I assume that EE won't take on line cancellations because they
want to give you the hard sell in parson over the phone.

Will cancel tomorrow via another network.

Gah!

P.S. see other post about Plusnet.

Does it send SMS messages ?

If so you could use the PAC or STAC methods to kill the account ?

Get a 'supermarket' SIM card for 99p or whatever, and use a PAC or STAC
code from EE (by sending an SMS from the SIM) to transfer the service to
that 99p SIM.

That's a sure-fire way of making sure your EE SIM account is closed
properly.

Then chuck the supermarket SIM away...........

Not sure how I did it but managed to cancel the account, confirmed by text.
Must have found a web link.
Major confusion because I was trying to do two things at one. :-(

Anyway, it seems to be sorted, thankfully.

The help was appreciated.

I think you typically have to make a minimum £10 topup on such SIMs to
activate them? They may not let you transfer in a number until activated?

Do any allow you to transfer a number in before being topped up?

Another option would be a 30 day SIM-only contract with an initial offer on
it. eg I think Lebara and Lyca were offering 49p for the first three
months. Sign up for the contract, port out the number, then cancel the
contract before the 3 months is out.

A few years ago a friend of mine ported to Tesco Mobile for 48 hours, it
was the only way he could transfer his Vodafone number from his previous
employer, to his new one !

I think he only 'invested' a quid or two . It was 5 or 6 years ago though.

Despite the text confirmation in January EE is still billing me and
providing service.

07953 966 250 is the number given for non-EE phones.

I can't use 150 as noted above.

I will give it another try.

This is BS. I've had the same thing with other firms who refused to
accept an online cancellation. As long as you have contacted them by
any legally recognised method - snail mail, email, provable text or
telephone conversations, online - to cancel the contract they can not
ignore that; just point out that any rules made for their own internal
organisational convenience have no legal standing in the wider UK.

If you haven't done so already, cancel any Standing Order making the
payments and refuse to pay any bills that you get sent. That will bring
things to a head ...

First, they should send you a warning letter, which should contain an
address for contacting them by snail mail, to which you should send, by
signed for delivery, a letter explaining that you have ended the
contract and outlining the steps that you took to close the account
including written copies of any official acknowledgement by EE, also,
although Ofcom will not interfere in particular cases, openly copying to
them as a way of telling EE that you're not going to stand for any
bullying or like bullshit. Keep a copy of the letter and note where and
when it was sent, and store the printed PO receipt with the copy.

If they don't do this and send the matter to a straight credit agency,
then instead send a similar signed-for delivery letter to the credit
agency stating that you have closed the account and that EE are at
fault, again openly copying Ofcom, again keeping a copy and the PO receipt.

As I said two months ago, the best method to kill a mobile account is to
PAC the number to a 'supermarket' PAYG SIM
