Seems to work here but only when posts are unread. If I click on a read
message subject in the list at the top of the window it doesn't work. Why not

No, this is slightly different.

Previously for long posts space would first page down through the body,
then at the end would obey the setting you've noted to jump to another
post.

Now the space bar does not page down.

This change is fairly recent, this year. I kept meaning to raise a bug
about it but it didn't annoy me quite enough :)

For me the page still scrolls by pressing the space bar, but maybe it's MacOS
related. I'm still working with Monterey 12.6 here.

I'll check it out on my MacBook tomorrow. It runs the latest Ventura.

After upgrading my MacBook from Ventura 13.1 to 13.3, the scroll functionality
stopped working.
