I recall reading about this tiny V8 back in the 1990s. What a pity we
never saw it.

A 1.6 Litre, turbo V8. Nice.

Just another one to add to the very long list of cars that we never saw
in Australia.
I doubt that a car of that size would of sold all that well here, about
6mths ago I test drove a Daihatsu Copen which is a tiny 2 door
convertible with a turbo 660cc engine, a fun little car but its size
means that it was very impractical.

Certainly interesting.
Current F1 engines are 1.6lt turbo V6, combined power from the ICE and
hybrid electric of about 1000hp at 15,000rpm.

Sounds like a barrels of fun machine. Wonder what killed it? Price point Vs
the MX5 would be my guess.

Interesting little thing. I remember there being some discussion about
these some years ago. Could be an entertaining drive, but you'd never
know until you sat your arse in one. Suzuki had a bit of a habit of
making lazy cars back in the day despite the on paper numbers.

I remember my father buying a Suzuki Vitara a few years before he died
which came with a 2 litre V6 engine. I can't remember the output figures
but it was *the* most gutless car I'd ever driven this side of a Morris
Minor. It would struggle to do better than 85km/h on the highway with
any kind of head wind.

I call bullshit on that Darren!

https://www.ultimatespecs.com/car-specs/Suzuki/5897/Suzuki-Vitara-Wagon-V6.html

With a fuel consumption of 10.6 litres/100km - 27 mpg UK - 22 mpg US
(Average), 0 to 100 km/h (62mph) in 12.5 seconds, a maximum top speed
of 99 mph (160 km/h), a curb weight of 2866 lbs (1300 kgs), the
Vitara Wagon V6 has a naturally-aspirated V 6 cylinder engine, Petrol
motor. This engine produces a maximum power of 136 PS (134 bhp - 100
kW) at 6500 rpm and a maximum torque of 172 Nm (126 lb.ft) at 4000
rpm. The power is transmitted to the road by the all wheel drive
(AWD) with a 5 speed Manual gearbox.
On the topic of chassis details responsible for road holding,
handling behavior and ride comfort, the Vitara Wagon has
Independent. McPherson. coil springs. anti-roll bar front suspension
and De Dion axle. Coil springs rear suspension. Stock tire sizes are
215 / 65 on 16 inch rims at the front, and 215 / 65 on 16 inch rims
at the rear. For stopping power, the Vitara Wagon V6 braking system
includes Vented Discs at the front and Drums at the rear.
The Vitara Wagon model is a car manufactured by Suzuki, sold new
from year 1995 until 1998, and available after that as a used car.

All I can say is - if your father's car was actually that bad, *you*
must have been working on it and stuffed it up. The reality is more
likely that you have never sat your arse in one ever nor ever looked
under the bonnet. In this case, it would appear Google has failed you.

**That and the fact that the MX5 has been so well resolved and insanely
popular. A 1.6L, turbo V8 would have been complicated and expensive to
build. I guess it would have needed to seriously undercut the price of
the (really, REALLY nice) Honda S2000 to survive. With a turbo V8, I
suspect that would have been difficult.

Only after you worked on it.
I drove a good number of them and they were not anywhere near as bad as
you're suggesting.

Yep, they could do nigh on 100mph (160kph) according to the spec sheet I
