Populist Peter Pellegrini has been elected president of Slovakia

He is an ally of Prime Minister Robert Fico, and shares the PM's dovish attitude towards Russia.

Mr Fico has called for an end to Western military support for Ukraine, an immediate ceasefire, and peace talks with Moscow. He said recently President Vladimir Putin had been "unfairly demonised" and argued admitting Ukraine to Nato would mark the beginning of a third world war.

Slovakia is a member of the EU and NATO and will stand in opposition to Ukraine joining either, will support Trump's peace plan which hands annexed Ukrainian land to Russia.

It is definitely not good news for the anti-Putin, anti-Russia, warmongers in NATO and the west, nor for Zelensky and Ukraine.

The people who will be most happy are Putin, Republicans and America's right wing who also don't believe America should be gifting arms and aid to Ukraine.
