I never wanted Bairstow to cease being the regular England keeper. While that was the case he made bags of runs. RH

It isn't, because he didn't maintain it when he was keeper.

He was the regular keeper from Nov 2015 to the end of the 2018 season,
apart from one Test v India in 2018, when he played as a specialist
batsman because of a finger injury.

In the 6 Tests when he kept against Pakistan and India in 2018, he
averaged 27.2.

He missed the first Test in SL through injury, when Foakes made a
century on debut, and was not selected for the 2nd, but returned for the
3rd Test, and the first two in WI, as a specialist batsman, while Foakes
continued to keep wicket. I don't remember you saying that he should
keep at any point during those four Tests.

He then took back the gloves for the 3rd Test in WI when Foakes was
injured, making 2 in his only innings.

He kept wicket throughout the 2019 season, making a pair against Ireland
and averaging 23.77 in the Ashes series.

So at the point when he was dropped, he had averaged 22.18 in his last
13 Tests as keeper.

Given his amazing inconsistency and general unreliability, it is
somewhat surprising that the local moron hasn't been selected to bat
for England.
