Musk has gone from someone who was somewhat inspirational to a class A,
solid gold, 24 carat prick. He probably always was, but it was previously
hidden.

He's also ruined the experience on twitter and allowed it to turn into a
cesspit giving a voice to the most unpleasant voices.

From what I've read about social media apps and their privacy, Mastodon
seems to be the least nosey.

And from the comments, there were so many items that I missed
"“Sensitive information” is also listed as a type of data collected by
the Threads app. Some information this could include is your race,
sexual orientation, pregnancy status, and religion as well as your
biometric data. "

Which is nice, and not at all likely to get people killed.

I'd heard that threads was a bit grabby in terms of permissions but that's
ridiculous. There's no justifiable reason to have access to even 10% of
that.

I did install it, but never opened it. Have now removed it.

It's the same set as Instagram, and presumably the FB app too.

On the upside, since iOS14 (or 13?) the default is to *not* allow the
app to see all those things and you'd have to allow it in privacy
settings.

I have insta but rarely use it. It's primarily to see my daughter's stories
when she's away.

Oh that's right. I remember the Zuck complaining bitterly about those
controls.
