What's the best email client available as an alternaive on a M2 mac
mini? Good IMAP support is essential so Alpine or even Claws Mail
would be the Linux equivalent. Thunderbird not so much.

Alpine and Claws can be made to run via Macports but I’ve never tried it.
Using Apple Mail here as I don’t get much email these days.

I use Thunderbird for mail and usenet. On all OSs exactly because it is
crossplatform and very powerful in the hands of an interested user.

There are so many options, and because of any personal preferences,
tastes or needs, it's pretty much impossible to say what's the 'best'.
There isn't one!

Personally I've been usign the standard Mail.app for years, it does all
I need, and more besides.

Of course I try out other options, but little else gives me the full
integration I want to have with other Apple products.

Almost everything works with IMAP now, and indeed some only work with
IMAP anyway.

There are many out on the normal 'wild' of the Internet, and loads on
the App Store. As mentioned you can also build the old 'port' ones too
using MacPorts, Fink or such like.

Some Windows-only clients can also be run via Crossover / WINE, not forgetting
Virtual Machine usage if you have, say, a partcular fave client.

Proton is not a mail client. This is a web interface.

It is only useful if the paid version is chosen.
