Over the last six months or so my computer (a bitzer) has been playing
up in various ways. Mainly slow boot and general slowness during operation.

Then it started taking up to 5 mins to boot into Bios. On
unplugging peripherals found that an ancient USB hub (i had been using
for at least 15yrs) was causing *all* the problems.Just a heads up ;)......

Sounds like a WIN10 feature, Microsoft want you to pay for their cloud
spyware feature, common for USB drives to mystically stop working.

Is your USB hub powered?
If so try unpluging power just use the PC's power supplied.

If that is your experience, you must have an extremely crap setup. There
are 4 windows machines here, none have ever had a problem with USB devices.

Mine mainly mostly work but do disconect after some months of working
fine. A lot of times it is the powere supplies to USB hubs
None Hub conections (connect direct to PPC) I don't have problems
with.

As I set at the get-go the hub was at least 15yrs old. A cheapy in the
first place. Stood on years ago, and held together with a cable tie.

A good innings I think. My post was more as something to look at if
you`re having slow boot and run problems and all else is (apparently) OK.

I use this powered one...
https://cdn.webshopapp.com/shops/172646/files/181459748/orico-aluminum-usb30-hub-with-10-ports-silver.jpg
..... that's been working well for 3 years.
It runs off a NUC computer with thunderbolt (for video).
From that hub I run backup drives, umpteen thumb drives, one of
these...

All this allows flexibility on desk space, though gamers might have
different priorities.

You mean back in 1997? Things have changed a bit in the intervening 24
