One of the things that most annoys me about the iOS default mail program is
the way it obscures fake senders. A message might have:

From: Big Bank <spammer@evilsite.ru>
To: Me <carbatteriesdirect@mydomain.example.com>

and Mail displays that as 'From: Big Bank' and 'To: Me', hiding the fact
it's a spammer sending to an address only used when ordering a car battery.

Is there a way to get Mail to display the full email addresses?

If not, anyone recommend an iOS email client that can do this? I don't want
any 'cloudy' features, or a subscription. Just a straight IMAP client.

Thanks
Theo

Yes you effectively have to click twice to display the full address and
then it offers to make a new contact from the details displayed :(

I'd imagine it was done to save critical space on screen.

Does Fastmail's app work with non-Fastmail servers? If so, it would be
worth a try.

I use Mail and definitely see messages thusly:

From: MyBoss <completelyrandomname@oddaddress.evil>

There has to be a setting somewhere. I shall hunt and see if I can spot it.

Which tells me what poor devices phones are for doing anything real.

Thanks, I have a FM account so I gave it a try. It does display the proper
headers if I go to 'show details', so that's good.

However it seems to only work with a single Fastmail account and you can't
add accounts at other servers, and it doesn't work if you are offline, even
just to read existing email. So that's not very useful.

Sort of but it's shit. :-(

1) Select the message

2) Press the "curve left" reply button

3) Scroll down the list of reply options and choose "Print"

4) "Un-pinch" on the thumbnail of the page (i.e try to stretch it bigger)

This causes a preview of the page that will be printed to appear

5) Turn the phone to landscape so the text is readable without needing a
microscope.

6) Behold the From line showing both the name of the contact and the
actual email address.

See, told you it was shit. C'mon Apple, you can do better.

(And I can't even try and write a share extension because iOS Mail
doesn't support sharing of messages.)

This is how I display the full email address on my iPhone and iPad.

Open the email

Click on the senders name. This expands the line and should now display
something like “From: sender >”

Click on the sender again and it should open up a Contacts app style
dialogue inviting you to create/add/block etc. the sender, but more
importantly it also displays the full email address of the sender.

It’s still s*** though ;)
