Hopefully most here will know that an open diff splits torque equally
between drive wheels but which wheel, if any, gets the most power on a
turn and why?...
a) Neither.
b) Inner.
c) Outer

Assuming both wheels have equal traction my guess is the inner wheel
gets the most power because its turning slightly faster (power equals
torque times revs).

Nothing astonishes Noddy so much as common sense and plain dealing.

It's a simple straightforward question (lest some think otherwise).

The outside wheel travels furthest on a turn (and therefore rotates
faster), and since power = torque x rpm (or distance) the answer must
be c.

Yes, that`s a given!,When that question was put here years ago, most
shied away. The ones that did reply mostly cried *bullshit*..
I put the same question a few years later, with the same result!. <G>

Yep, the outer wheel, in turning faster, did more work. I did feel very
amused (and bemused) by Daryl's answer. He should have got that right
from the get go.

I'm not surprised Darren didn't provide an answer. He still can't
differentiate between torque and power.

Seems to disagree being the operative phrase. It only seems like that to
you because you *still* don't get the difference between *power* and
*torque*. Congratulations, you've just *proven* why you couldn't cut the
mustard as an apprenticeship applicant.

Then you really don't have a clue.

He's talking about the torque split in a locked diff vs open diff (no
mention of the power split). He's 100% correct.

Obviously you don't know the difference.

Also 100% correct....

It's absolutely so (barring hypotheticals)!

Even the bloke Noddy says disagrees with me, but doesn't, says so.
Since the torque split is 50/50 it logically follows the power split
will be greater than 50/50 at the fastest moving wheel.

Indeed he should've, since he understands that P=T x rpm. Obviously
didn't think it through. Mechanics are taught this stuff (at least
they used to be), whether they actually understand it is something
else

I did trade maths and trade science in my apprenticeship. It was all
there, and I started my time before Daryl. So he should have got the
message. I started my time in Tasmania in the late 60s, he started his
in Victoria in the early 70s, maybe that is the difference?

LOL, what answer did I give, I thought I said c?
If I didn't it was a typo because c being having more rpm is what I meant.

Mechanics are taught this stuff (at least

I learnt a bit about torque via tractor transmissions, at Ford back in
the 80's they had a problem with a particular trans breaking, to fix the
problem they changed the internal gearing so that the problematic shafts
and gears were spinning faster thereby reducing the torque load.

Where in that video does he mention power? He speaks of torque. Since
torque is split evenly but the outside wheel rotates faster, clearly the
power applied to the outside wheel is greater as per the equation.

Fucking hell... and you wonder why qualified people recognise you as a
fraud...

Indeed. The fraud doesn't understand the difference between torque and
power and Daryl can't even figure out that the outer wheel is spinning
faster, not the inner.

They do if the pass an apprenticeship and get their trade certificate,
at least in WA and NSW. The fraud never has but Dazzler ought to have
known. Then again, he has been out of the loop for some time and maybe
didn't think it through.

The fraud is completely clueless as you would expect from someone who
has never completed an automotive apprenticeship, he can't even
comprehend the equation and what is being explained in the video he
offered up. What a fucking idiot.

I hope the "village idiot" is paying attention to this.

Proven too!

Jonz is clueless but pretending otherwise, and failed! "It aint
necessarily so!..... Tho it *could* be!" he says :-)

Oh look, none on team FLCJC understand something mechanics are taught.
What a surprise.
