This is happening again with Smith and Labuschagne, can anybody suggest other times it could have happened?

Barnes and Bradman is the only other one I'm confident about, I guess the 3Ws might have had it happen at some stage.

Yes, Barnes's average passed 60 during their 405 partnership at Sydney
in Dec 1946, and was still for their two remaining partnerships in that
series. It passed 60 again during their double-century stand v India at
Adelaide in 1947/48. It was above 60 for their first-innings partnership
at Trent Bridge in 1948, and passed 60 during Bradman's second-innings
duck, and again during their 174 stand at Lord's.

Others partnerships with Bradman:

Trent Bridge 1930 - Fairfax (65 in his only previous innings).

The Oval 1930 - Jackson's average passed 60 during their partnership of 243.

Sydney 1931/32 - Rigg's average passed 60 during their partnership of 111.

Lord's 1934 - Brown's average passed 60 during their 1st-innings
partnership.

Adelaide 1936/37 - Ross Gregory passed 60 for once out while batting
with Bradman in the 2nd innings.

Sydney 1946/47 (5th Test) - Morris's average was 95.80 by the time
Bradman joined him, and 97.20 just before he (Morris) got out. He also
averaged over 60 going into 4 partnerships with Bradman in the first 3
Tests v India in 1947/48, his average passed 60 while batting with
Bradman at Lord's in 1948, and was over 60 going into both partnerships
with him at Old Trafford, their 301-run stand at Headingley and their
2-ball partnership at The Oval.

1947/48 - Miller (partnerships in the first innings of each of the first
three Tests).

Headingley 1948 - Harvey (avg 92.67 from 3 innings).

The above also led me to Morris and Harvey, who both averaged over 60
going into their first 6 partnerships, from The Oval 1948 to Brisbane
1951/52.

> I guess the 3Ws might have had it happen at some stage.

Certainly Worrell and Weekes, probably on numerous occasions. Worrell's
average was consistently above 60 from his debut in Feb 1948 to Feb
1953, and again from Mar 1953 to Mar 1954, while Weekes's was above 60
from Nov 1948 to Jan 1952 and from Feb 1953 to Jul 1957.

Walcott's average passed 60 in Jun 1955. His next Test was Edgbaston
1957, and he and Weekes both averaged over 60 at the start of both of
their partnerships there.

Obviously that should read "... still above 60 ..."
