Recently gone on to Sonoma 14.1 - and the "blue caps lock indicator"
arrow - which comes on at all times the key is on, is beginning to annoy
me :-(

Searching reveals that this another helpful feature added by Apple that
cant be turned off in settings.

Lots of detailed discussion on Reddit, etc., on how to inactivate it via
Terminal commands.

So, anyone on here done this successfully and can confirm what exact
text works in the Terminal.

Thanks for any input. John

Are you telling me that in Sonoma you can no longer permanently disable
CapsLock? This is pretty much the first thing I do at any computer I sit down
at, although how you do it in Windows is a mystery.

Or just that you can't disable the blue light bollocks?

Whenever you press the "Caps Lock" key down - a blue up arrow appears on
screen under the next letter to be typed. It remains there until you
press the key off. I just use the shift key now - but its really
annoying when wanting to type lots of capitals continuously.

Whether you can permanently disable caps lock in settings... I am not
sure - but I have never checked.

This blue arrow bollox "feature" cannot be disabled in the settings.
The folks on Reddit have posted script to input on Terminal to remove
it. But I am not too confident in Terminal so just looking for
confirmation and clarity.

Cheers John

Caps Lock is annoying when you're typing a password.

On macOS you can, certainly, and AISB I do it on any mac I use.

No Sonoma here (yet) so can't help with that, sorry, but keep us posted on the
matter, thanks.

I've tried this, and its working for me (thanks to "precision01" on the
MacRumors forum):

1. Open Terminal.
2. Type the following sudo command (or copy and paste):

sudo defaults write /Library/Preferences/FeatureFlags/Domain/UIKit.plist
redesigned_text_cursor -dict-add Enabled -bool NO

3. Restart the computer

No side issues that I'm aware of, and I haven't tried reverting the command,
so I don't know if changing "NO" to "YES" would work.

I hate it. There's a light on the caps lock key, and in the old days, a
caps-lock symbol would appear faintly in the box you're typing in as a
reminder. The big blue arrow is a pain in the arse.

Well it helps of you enter the entire command instead of just part of it.
This:

sudo defaults write /Library/Preferences/FeatureFlags/Domain/UIKit.plist
redesigned_text_cursor -dict-add Enabled -bool NO

is all supposed to be entered before you press the Return key. Copy/paste
should work, but don't copy the Return that may be in the middle of the
command as you see it, due to line lengths and stuff, not put there by Paul.
And do you have a sudo password? Without it you won't be able to enter
privileged commands.
