Just sayin'.

I was talking to a mate the other day and I asked about his Nissan
Prairie (mid 1980s vintage). He told me that he had just sold it. I
expressed surprise that anyone would pay real money for an ancient thing
with 750,000kms on the clock.

Apparently they would and he corrected me. It had just clocked up
800,000km. Never had an engine problem, though a couple of clutch
changes did happen. He got $800.00 for the thing.

Astonishing on so many levels.

Nissans rule. Well, old Nissans do.

Just sold my trusty old Nissan Navara last week. Guys are coming from
Taralgon to pick it up tonight actually. Been a fantastic vehicle over
the last 6 years that I owned it, and apart from the intercooler needing
to be replaced which cost all of 500 bucks it's been faultless. Got 28
and a half grand for it after paying 35 and a half for it 6 years ago,
and at that price I have absolutely nothing to complain about.

Could have sold it a dozen times over.

Not really, the remainder on the rego and scrap value could easily
exceed $800.00.

LOL.
Your mate must be a masochist, those Prairies were hideous things when
they were new (neighbors bought one new, they didn't have it long
because it was just horrible), he must hate himself an awful lot to want
to punish himself that badly by driving it that many kms:-)

Those things were absolute garbage as were most 80's Nissans and they
still are. Aside from a handful of decent models most were shit, 80's
Nissans especially. Bluebird anyone?

Some no doubt were. Others less so.

Take the comments with a grain of salt, as the "expert" here once
claimed that he had a Mitsubishi Colt that was a brilliant car that was
uber reliable, yet every other one on the planet was nothing other than
a unreliable heap of unmitigated shit on wheels.

You can't expect much from someone who "did their time" working for a
French car specialist :)

A congenital liar with no career at all making cracks like this is
fantastically surreal.

And a complete anomaly.

They were a pile of shit Trev and old Nissans didn't rule, aside from a
few exceptions they were generally pretty shit.
Still are!

I'd pay to see you "work" on a Citroen DS... it would be comedy gold!

**Dunno about all Nissans. A mate had a 240Z back in the day. Very nice.
Another had a Fairlady. Fucking brilliant car. Ate MGBs for breakfast.
And who can forget the legendary Datsun 1600. That said, it could be
argued that the 180B was more civilised but not so brilliant. And, who
can forget Wheels magazine when they said about the Datsun 200B: "A 180B
with 20 MORE mistakes." The Nissan 300ZX was pretty damned nice in it's
day. The Nissan 370Z was more fun than a basket of puppies, when I had a
drive of one.

So, not all bad?

Oh and my Stagea. I love it to bits. Drove it today. It still puts a
smile on my face.

Of course they weren't all bad. They made some great cars, and they made
some lemons. Just like every other manufacturer on the planet.

Including Toyota :)

If it blows your skirt up, then who gives a crap what badge is on the
bonnet?

Some people around here carry on as if their fucking *knob* will drop
off if you don't agree with *their* idea of what makes a good and bad
car company.

I'll leave you to work out who they are :)

I didn't say they were all bad, I said apart from a few exceptions
(including some you mentioned) most ranged from mediocre at best to
total shit.

So it should, they're a great car.

What's so difficult about working on a Citroen DS?
A friend used to own 2, didn't do a huge amount of work on them but I
don't remember any of it being particularly difficult.

A mate owns a 1989 twin turbo 300Z, very interesting car and it drives
nice but its an utter bastard to work on the engine, its so jammed into
the engine bay there just isn't any room.
He asked me to have a look at why the heater doesn't work, looks like at
some time before he bought it the heater core leaked so someone just
bypassed it, its a huge amount of work to replace the core so not worth
the effort.

That's because it wasn't. There was nothing at all complicated about
them. Different, certainly, but only someone in an advanced state of

Jesus could only turn wine into water. Pffft. Here's Fraudster turning iron
ore into gold!

Here's a creature soooo inadequate that he has to invent a business, lie
about being qualified, lie about owning property in Qld, lie about being a
drag racer, lie about his upbringing... sheeet, he has even lied about his
height! Yet here's this wretched creature bleating that someone else is
"blowing smoke up his inadequate arse". Yep, irony into comedy gold.

Not so bad if you stay away from the engine and the heater core:-)
When he bought it he couldn't fill the fuel tank more than half way
without it leaking, it needed to be resealed where the filler neck was
connected to the tank, its a flange with 6 small studs on the tank,
bastard to get to but we eventually managed to remove and reseal it.
Cruise control doesn't work and according to what I found the problem is
it has 2 switches on the brake pedal, one for the brake lights and the
other for the CC, apparently the "pad" that presses the switch closed
with the pedal released wears and no longer closes the switch so the
system thinks that the pedal is pressed and cancels the CC, trouble is
access to the switch its very tight for a normal size adult so we
haven't tried to fix it.
Might need to get one of the grand kids to crawl under the dash:-)

The hydraulic brakes and suspension is certainly different but nothing
that can't be figured out.
I wouldn't mind owning an old Citroen D, very quirky interesting cars
but the prices of the things are nuts, cheapest on carsales I can find
is $45k, I've seen convertible models selling for over $100k.

lol!

In one thread the Fraudster harangues someone for having a baseless
opinion but here he artlessly produces his own! What a buffoon.

Sooo, where's your proof Fraudster?
On what *facts* do you base your opinion?

Noting that The Buffoon would have been about 12 in 1975, which was the
middle of the 240ks 5 year Oz run.

Of course but this one was particularly bad.

Can't remember looking under the bonnet of a 928 but the 300zx is
particularly tight with the twin turbo's adding to the problem of lack
of space, many mechanics refuse to work on them.
A friend used to own a 2008 Aston Martin V8 Vantage, it was a hell of a
lot easier to work on than the 300zx, we fixed a few things on the AM,
leaking power steering hoses and a problem with the exhaust flaps that
opened up over 4000rpm which was just a vac hose disconnected so an easy
fix.
To access the engine on my Boxster takes a bit of time but once all the
covers are removed (takes 10mins) it not difficult to work on, I've only
looked at the top of the engine once and that was to replace the air
filter, the rest of the servicing can be done from underneath.
