Middlesex are the first CC to sign up to this, 37 footy clubs
have already. While encouraging people of all ethnicitys and
backgrounds to play cricket is good, its just linking this
to a particular religion which makes me uneasy. Suppose
the Jews, Sihks, buddists, Jedis and Jehovah witless all want
a charter too?

Wouldnt a more general statement of tolerance, ideally
rejecting those implicit sporty traditions of drunken
social debauchery which many of us have gone through
in our younger days be a better way to go? So that those who
dont want to drink or socialise after games and take part in these
ridiculous age old rituals dont feel ostracised or bullied by
consequence?

I would reckon that the Muslims in our club would find it all a bit
condescending. We have three grills at our outdoor kitchen, one is
veggie one is halal and one is regular heathen. The Mulsim lads always
say ' no need to do this for us'.

I'm an atheist from a religious family. I mean my family (or the cult
it has founded) has schools and churches, country houses
contemplation for the purpose of, it even has some gospel radio
stations on the go.
From a moral, ethical position I am ashamed of them; from a dog eat
dog commercial position then fair play to them. I could have joined in
and preached, tax free. I know my scripture and apologetics by heart -
but I would have to be very dishonest in order to do that.
So I'll stay poor but honest.

No charter at all is what is needed otherwise it will become a de facto quota system,... RH
