Bit of a shock.
Best spinner I ever saw. He changed the game IMO.

That comes as a shock. I thought he was good for another 20 years. RIP.

How lucky we were to have seen him bowl.

Anyhoo, conspiracy theories anyone?

Like, did CNSW have him killed because of his criticism of Starc?
Or was it his fellow Fox comms? Tired of being unable to get a word in.
(And which over-rated NSW drone will replace him on the Fox comms?)

Proposed Epitaph:

Shane Warne, where drama was only ever a couple of balls away.

A bit like the jabs then.

Amazing there's another (a feeble challenge, though). One who Warne kept out of the Aussie team, but he would've walked into any other Test team.

Stuart MacGill
Tests 44
Wickets 208
Av 29.02
4.7 wickets per Test
NB: a slightly better SR than Warne

I don't think anyone could dispute the claim that Warne could challenge
Warne. ;)

Trumble's strike rate was the same as Warne's: 57.4 balls per wicket.
Those of O'Reilly (69.6) and Grimmett (67.1) were significantly higher
(higher than Lyon's 64.8).

However, the average and strike rate for all bowlers collectively in
Trumble's matches were considerably lower than in those played by the
others.

Matches played by:
Trumble Avg 25.34, SR 58.4
Grimmett Avg 32.62, SR 80.5
O'Reilly Avg 31.26, SR 74.0
Warne Avg 32.34, SR 64.5

So they beat the overall figures in those matches by:
Trumble Avg 14%, SR 2%
Grimmett Avg 26%, SR 17%
O'Reilly Avg 28%, SR 6%
Warne Avg 21%, SR 11%

Of course, when Warne was available, MacGill usually only played when
conditions favoured spin and two spinners were selected. He played 16 of
his 44 Tests alongside Warne. In those matches he outbowled Warne (avg
22.10, SR 41.7 vs Warne avg 29.56, SR 56.6). In his other matches, he
was far less successful (avg 33.53, SR 62.0).

Shocking lack of respect for the dead. Duly noted.

That's very interesting. I wonder if they decided to "see off" Warne, and go after MacGill.

It must've been pretty scary facing both of them.

bit hard to read anything into that, I find.

I don't remember where I saw it but I think Warne's stated that when he was in the same team as MacGill he altered his bowling style so that the batsmen would have to take more risks.

It probably also has something to do with 3 of those matches being the 98-99 series against Lara when Warne too 2-268 coming back from a shoulder injury (needed surgery iirc).
In his only test match back before the series he took 2-110 against England at the SCG - which is pretty suggestive that he wasn't at his best.
Waugh dropped him for the 4th test
