I've not been following the current Test live, but my son has, and he
reports that Foakes has been dropping catches with alarming frequency.

I don't know what match he's been watching, but it doesn't seem to have
been the same one as me. :) (Though I confess that Friday's play was so
soporific that I skipped about half of it, so I suppose I could have
missed a drop or two..)

If only England's bowlers had been producing chances with "alarming
frequency" ...

I did a quick search of the Cricinfo commentary for the WI innings, but
all I could find were a couple of half-chances to Crawley and Lees -
nothing involving Foakes.

I watched him miss a stumping, so there's that.

yes at the end of day 3 off braithwaite and as he batted on and on the
following day, it was a bad miss.

I'd say that makes it costly rather than bad.
A bad miss is not taking a simple chance,

iirc Stokes was dropped. off a couple of tough chances in his 4th innings chase in the last Ashes series in England.
They were extremely costly chances but they weren't bad misses because they were tough chances

Mind you, not having seen the stumping chance it could be both

It was costly. It would have been strong evidence that Foakes is very
good if he'd taken it.

Cheers,

Mike
