I have W10 Pro, with an elderly I7 CPU, on an MSI H97M ECO motherboard.
This has a TPM header, but no TPM fitted.

It occurs to me belatedly that I should enable Bitlocker, but it
complains about lack of a TPM. So, should I buy a TPM?

I can bypass the TPM requirement by setting a security policy, but I am
not sure whether there's any point in running it at all then?

Also, I can get TPMs priced between £10 and £40. Is there any
difference? I certainly wouldn't want to get locked out of my disc drive
because I bought a crappy TPM.

Any thoughts, please?

that'll require you to either enter a start-up password, or store the encryption
key on a USB stick.

I've only used bitlocker on machines that came with a TPM, never bothered
fitting one to a machine without, so can't really comment on quality, I thought
most of the stocks got panic bought by Win11 users?
