Even if half of the Surrey members are on the youth scales that is still going to be a health income

If only half of the 15,000 pay the full membership of, say, £400 that is £400 times 7500 = 300,0000

SURREY SURPASS 15,000 MEMBERS FOR FIRST TIME
February 10, 2022
More than 15,000 people are Members of Surrey County Cricket Club for the 2022 season; a higher total than in any other season in the modern era.
The Club has seen a doubling of its Membership base in a decade, rising from a final total of 7,143 in 2012.

This figure has steadily increased throughout those years, first surpassing 10,000 in 2018 and then going beyond 13,000 in 2019.

Priced at just £20 for U16s and from £71 for young adults, Membership is an affordable source of entertainment for people from all across London & the South East.

A Championship membership is £164 for new members but £144 for renewal by direct debit. Same for T20 membership. Both memberships include RL Cup and Womens fixtures

I wonder why the village idiot offers us estimates of membership
subscription income based on fantasy when he could just as easily find
out what the membership rates really are and how much they actually
raise by simply looking at the club's own documentation.

Cheers,

Mike

Thanks for that, Toby. But the point about all these direct revenue streams is that they produce sizeable sums of money.

Apart from the revenue already mentioned there are the sponsorship, club shop takings and the catering.

There is also the live streaming of CC matches. and the various Radio commentaries led by the BBC. Presumably the counties get something for that.

That is far from exhausting the opportunities to make money at the county level, eg, raffles.

What is important is to think the counties bring in virtually nothing when the reality is far from that stark idea.

Add in the England money and we have ECB salaries reaching as high as £500,000

Call the Championship memberships (existing and new) £150

7500 times times £150 - £1,125, 000

Big money again. And of course the other half of the 15,00 will bring in a decent amount as well. RH

In practice, I suspect it's much less than half.

Putting the commas in the conventional places, it's £3,000,000.

But your guesstimate of £400 for full membership is almost double the
actual figure. As a full member myself, I pay £201 (it would be £221,
but I get a £20 direct debit discount).

Membership brings in a substantial amount, of course, but I think it's
less than Surrey - as a county with a Test ground - get from
international ticket sales and from the ECB, not to mention what they
earn from corporate events such as conferences held in what until
recently was called the OCS stand and now has a funny name beginning
with G that I can't quite remember.

The county made a profit after tax of £3.4M in 2021, which given the
lingering effects of Covid was good going. But Surrey are - I think -
the richest county, and far from typical. Counties like Leicestershire
and Derbyshire are in a very different position.

That is what I am trying to get people to understand. The figures that I use do not have to be exact for this exercise. What is important is to disabuse people of the idea that the Counties bring in very little.

It's true that Surrey are quite well off. But as I pointed out, it's
almost certainly very different for counties such as Leicestershire and
Derbyshire.

It's even been pointed out here today that the verified figures of the
counties ins and outs are available to view, examine, appraise
whatever.

As I've already pointed out, I've consulted the annual reports and
accounts of most of the non-Test-hosting counties covering the past
pre-Covid season 2019 - Derbys, Northants, Leics, Worcs and Glos.

None of them collect more than £350k in membership subscriptions.

None of them make more than £600k from match-day tickets from all
formats of the game. Glos only make £100k from the CC and £250k from
T20 and 50-over stuff.

Looking at their other income streams, it's interesting to note that
the club shops all lose money hand over fist. Glos's has income of
£22k and costs £65k to run.

If the village idiot's figures bore any relation to reality, the
situation wouldn't be what people say it is. However, if you use the
exact figures which the counties have reported as being the case, his
argument falls to the ground. Perhaps the person in need of disabusal
is the village idiot.

It's clear that anything he says about county cricket finance is based
on no evidence at all, and that he should be challenged to provide
evidence for his extraordinary claims.

Cheers,

Mike

Humh, you pull figures out of your arse that are out by around 100%, Mike has looked at the actual books of the counties...
Who should we believe about the issues?
Such a hard choice...

I can just about understand how the village idiot came up with the
idea that I was panicking about bringing factual content to the
discussion: he's never felt the need to use facts when blethering
nonsensically about the game, and thinks that other people are as
afraid of facts as he is.

Cheers,

Mike

No need to be so disrespectful Mike.

Just because you disagree with the observations of another poster, labelling him as "the village idiot" says more about you than it does about him.

Please try harder.

It isn't a label, it's an acurate observation. Hard on village idiots
everywhere to have Henderson included in their tribe.

As can be inferred from his handle, Chestikov is one of the village
idiot's acolytes who went into the bozo bin ages ago. I'd think of
taking his advice as often as I'd take the village idiot's.

Cheers,

Mike
