Flights I've priced recently are generally very expensive unless you
book a long time in advance, I checked Melb to Auckland departing just
before Christmas and the price was nuts at $1800.00 return per person,
I've paid a lot less than that to go to London return.
Oddly enough the cheapest flight from Melb to NZ was about $1200 but it
for some strange reason it went via Adelaide, very very odd.

That's *exactly* why it was cheap. That was a milk run flight. It enters
Australia at Melbourne, flies on to Adelaide, then returns to New
Zealand. Lots of inbound flights to Australia operate that way. Thai
International, for instance, used to enter Brisbane, then on to
Melbourne and, from Melbourne, fly direct back to Bkk. Before that they
flew Bkk-Melb-Bkk, no Brisbane stopover.

Yeah, it's ridiculous.

The wife took the mother in law over for a ten day "farewell tour" a few
weeks ago. They flew business class because they wanted to make it a bit
special, and the return tickets for the pair of them was seven and a
half thousand bucks.

Yep. There's very little sense behind any of it at the moment.

Fark, that's crazy.
I've seen return flights to the UK for 2 people flying premium economy
and the total price was around $8k.
We would like to go OS around the middle of next year but we won't be
going anywhere unless prices settle down a bit.

Yep. It's pretty fucked up for a 3 and half hour flight, but that's what
they wanted to do.

Certainly makes it very expensive.
We did Melb Bris return last March, total cost for 2 people was $400.00,
last time I checked the price was triple at about $1200.00.
