I use Facebook and it's companion messenger and it seems to do all I need
in the way of groups, although a couple of my paranoid friends make mass
messaging a pain as they won't use it.
I could use WhatsApp I suppose, but apart from its security I probably
would not gain anything else and fewer of my contacts are users.
I don't understand Instagram and cannot get my head around Twitter as it
seems like howling at the moon.
What are the views here?

If you have paranoid friends then trying to migrate to Instagram /
Twitter etc is not going to solve that problem.

Now that most of us have unlimited text messaging on phones, it might be
an idea to make a contact group and just text away free of charge.

If theres anything important that needs to be broadcast then you might
have a better chance of it getting through ?

As multiple images may be involved I might as well just stick to email and
keep Facebook for groups of common interest.

A lot of people dont have email routed to their mobile phones, so the
texting option might be more effective - even if its just a text to say
that theres an email coming down the wire.

Could you not use email? Set up a list of addresses, paste them into
the TO box, then they will go to everyone. Replying to ALL, will copy a
reply to all of them.

As I usually do, but A_T suggests folks don't always have email on their
phones. How very strange.

Theres a lot of Android phones around which have no email client
installed other than gmail. So if you have a "normal" POP/IMAP email
account (and you dont suffer from paranoia) you may have to jump through
a few hoops of fire in order to set it up - I guess a lot of people just
dont bother.

Also, I have had problems with the Samsung email client which is
pre-installed on Galaxy phones and I have reason to believe that I am
not the only one.

And lets not forget the people I know who literally NEVER use mobile data

I'm sorry. I should have made it clear that all those I can/wish to contact
do have email on their phones, but not all have Facebook.
However it was really about comparing the others, but I'm losing interest.
